Campaign Background
Every year, Pink October reminds us of a reality that touches millions of women and families: breast cancer. In 2022, approximately 2.3 million women worldwide were diagnosed, and around 670,000 lost their lives to the disease.
In Mauritius as well, we must take action. GLOBOCAN 2022 estimated 537 new cases of breast cancer, representing 33.2% of all newly diagnosed cancers among Mauritian women.
These figures should not inspire fear. They must inspire action.
SMILE Breast Cancer Care Project
It is within this vision that Enn Rev Enn Sourir launched the SMILE Breast Cancer Care Project in 2024, aiming to provide individuals affected by breast cancer with more comprehensive, compassionate, and coordinated support.
Our approach does not end at diagnosis. We seek to accompany the patient from screening to treatment, and from treatment to post-cancer life: promoting early detection, raising awareness of warning signs and breast self-awareness, providing access to qualified healthcare professionals, connecting patients with our specialized network and international multidisciplinary second opinions, guiding patients toward modern treatments and medications, exploring therapeutic options in Mauritius or abroad, patient navigation, medical follow-up, psychological and psychosocial support, as well as guidance around femininity, rights, dignity, breast conservation, and reconstruction when medically appropriate.
We also mobilize funds to contribute to the treatment of eligible patients and ensure the project’s long-term sustainability.
Our Ambition
Our goal is clear: to help reduce breast cancer mortality in Mauritius, particularly by promoting earlier detection, prompt referrals, and greater continuity of care.
Enn Rev Enn Sourir also aligns its mission within an international cancer control network through its partnerships with SIOP, Childhood Cancer International (CCI), and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
Pink October 2026: From Awareness to Action
Throughout October, we will roll out MED360 Podcast Live, educational content across our social media platforms amplified with the support of local influencers and media outlets, as well as breast health activities, consultations, and screening initiatives alongside our partners across Mauritius.
We also commend initiatives that expand access to information, particularly Pink Pulse by Breast Cancer Care Mauritius, which helps raise public awareness of breast health and access to available services.
Because Pink October should not just be a ribbon or a month-long campaign.
Educate to understand. Detect earlier. Support without letting go. Treat with dignity.
October is pink. Our commitment lasts 365 days.
